How does Cryonite work?
Carbon dioxide snow (“dry ice” snow) is very cold: about -110F (-78.9C). But just being cold is not enough.
For example, the snow produced by a fire extinguisher is meant to put out a fire, not freeze tiny bugs. Compared to Cryonite snow, the particle size is big, and the particle speed is slow. For killing bugs, a fire extinguisher simply cannot do the job. (We might as well admit here that Cryonite makes a lousy fire extinguisher!)
The Cryonite effect – rapid freezing – depends on a patented mix of particle sizes and speeds. Cooling occurs in several phases, each phase having the optimal combination of particle size and speed.
High speed help particles penetrate deep into thin cracks and crevices and through long pipes. But high speed is also an integral part of the freezing itself. For the energy transfer to be efficient, the ice particles need contact with the target (bug or surface). High speed makes for good, contact-making impact on the target.
